Canal Taxi
15/06/2009Community art project in Liverpool. The city council wanted to give the dilapidated Leeds-Liverpool Canal positive attention and stimulate tourism. Artists were invited to start this process and draw attention to the channel. The taxi which was converted to a boat taxi refers to the wrecks at the bottom of the canal there and show what you achieve using a car wreck. The taxi has operated for a whole summer on the canal as a water taxi. Commissioned by Urbanism 2009 Liverpool.

Shed
04/06/2008Saved from demolition and redeveloped as a boat, this old shed sailed to the the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen and was included in its collection. This open air museum has salvaged buildings of historical interest in the vicinity of the former Zuiderzee (Southern Sea). The shed has since been used during festivals and cultural events. Commissioned by Ida van der Lee.

01/05/2008The three Dutch naval heroes, De Ruyter, Maurits and Piet Hein, in turbulent times found a safe haven in the port of Delfzijl. To remember this fact, the heads of these heroes were placed at the centre of a roundabout , where they look straight at you when you approach.

Waffle Chairs

Both sides of the seat are made of baking irons, when they are hot you only have to put the waffle mix on it and close the seat. In five minutes the soft, your warm waffle or pillow is ready.

Artificial Moon
01/08/2006The Artificial Moon will change the face of the Earth. An inflatable ball with a diameter of one kilometer will be filled with hot air and subsequently rise. The ball will be a temporary celestial body and become a second moon for the earth. Reversor
01/06/2006orderA tree is clamped in a hydraulic mechanism. It is sawn between two parts of this machine so it can hinge. Now it is possible to put the tree down, but also back in to its upright position. If you regret cutting down a beautiful tree. you can now easily recover the error. The reversor was made for a project of Kunstenlab.

Magnet Clock
01/11/2005Digital clock, which digits are formed by growing pixels made of iron powder. Electromagnets on the back ensure that iron, transported via oil, on the front is attracted or repelled. Cam wheels drive the system.

Brick Industry
01/06/2005Project Brick Industry at a new housing estate shows that it is possible to find and produce building materials at or near the place where the houses are built. At the location "Broekpolder" near the village Heemskerk (NL) was clay in the ground, which, using found wood, could be perfectly baked into bricks. Nowadays, most materials and the builders are transported from faraway to construction sites.

Box Tent

Flexible house
15/07/2003The different layers of this object are symbolizing the different functions of a standard house. When a function of a layer is not utilized, this layer disappears. If it is utilized again, the layer fills with air. This way, the volume of the object stays minimized.
‘Flexible House’ is a project in collaboration with Tjeerd Veenhoven in commission of the Day of Architecture and Platform Gras. -

Boxing
01/12/2002orderBoxing is an interactive game for two people.
Participants control, via panel buttons on the floor, a cart containing a boxing glove. The idea is to place the cart into a position so you can hit the opponent.
Boxing is inspired by highly violent computer games in which the player can lose several lives. In Boxing a punch can really hurt. -
Space Maker
15/08/2002The Space Maker is a tent with an interactive moving roof. The roof is normally too low to stand in the tent. At the places visitors move towards, the tent roof rises up automatically so you can stand there. When you walk, ahead of you the roof goes up, and behind you it goes back down. That way, the volume of the tent stays minimal.

05/04/2000This inflatable construction resembles a molecular model, but is actually the upper part of a building that was once destined to become a tower. For each presentation, this construction will grow a little, so that one day... The design is the result of images that sprung to mind during sleepless nights.

Inflateble furniture
15/06/1999This furniture can be filled with air or be deflated. You fill up what you need and deflate what you don’t use. Now it is possible to move to a smaller house, because one room can be used for all purposes. A room can change its function, for example from a living room into a bedroom: you fill up your bed and deflate your table, chairs and cupboard.

Students, teachers and other interested people could spy into the offices on the first floor of the building. Soapstonemachine
01/08/1998This is a symbolic machine made out of soapstone. The machine recycles the big mountain of waiststone from the guarry near by Joensuu (SF). The proportions of the wheels show the chemical composition of the stone. The rough stone above will be reduced to rubble by these wheels. This project was made in collaboration with Erik Botman.

Numbers (Wild flashing numbers)
01/06/1998On three independent flashing lightboxes, we see numbers appear and disapear in a raid motion. These lightboxes where used for the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the art academy Minerva in the city of Groningen. Traffic Jam (Floating traffic jam made up of colourfull toy cars)
01/05/1998Floating parade of toycars in a canal in the city of Meppel (NL),mirroring the real traffic jam on the street next to it.
rnUntill the introduction of the automobile this old canal was the most important trade route into the town of Meppel. The boats have long been replaced by trucks moving along the motorway. Part of the canal has been filled up with sand in fafour of this motorway. In turn , during weekdays the motorwa fills up with cars. This artwork reflects playfully on that situation.

Flowerpot
01/05/1995This oversized flowerpot was placed around the trunk of a tree. The enormous scale of the pot reduces a tree to a pot plant. The pot has toured through Groningen and it diminished various trees.
